Joint Base San Antonio-Randolph

Joint Base San Antonio-Randolph, on the northeast side of San Antonio, is home to Headquarters Air Education and Training Command, the Air Force Personnel Center and the host unit, the 12th Flying Training Wing, according to the JBSA MilitaryINSTALLATIONS overview. Randolph Field was dedicated on June 20, 1930, as a flying training base and continues that mission today. Checking in

Report to your Commander’s Support Staff with your sealed records; once you sign in with your unit, you are scheduled for required in-processing appointments, including Finance and the Base Newcomer’s Orientation, per the JBSA check-in page. If you arrive after 4:30 p.m. or on a weekend or holiday, the Lodging Office is the 24-hour arrival point; report to your CSS the next duty day. Your gaining commander approves permissive TDY for house hunting after you sign in.

From San Antonio International Airport, taxis to Randolph average around $35, the overview says. For temporary lodging, contact the Randolph Lodging office as soon as you have orders and an arrival date (210-652-1844); if nothing is available on base, it refers you to a nearby hotel.

Housing

“Base housing is limited, but there are numerous apartments and single dwelling rentals in the community”, the overview says; for assistance, it lists 210-652-1840. The Relocation Assistance Program at the Military and Family Readiness Center is at 210-652-5321.

Schools: Randolph Field ISD

Randolph has its own independent school district, subject to the Texas Education Agency rather than DoDEA. “Randolph Field Independent School District is comprised of Randolph Elementary School, Randolph Middle School, and Randolph High School”, the JBSA education page says.

Medical care

The 559th Medical Squadron provides general outpatient services to active-duty members, their families, retirees and their dependents at the Randolph clinic, per the JBSA health care page. For 24-hour emergency care, the JBSA overview names Brooke Army Medical Center on Fort Sam Houston.

Child care

There are two child development centers: the Main CDC for ages 2 to 5 and the Annex CDC for infants and pre-toddlers from 6 weeks to 24 months, open weekdays from 6:30 a.m. to 5:45 p.m. (210-652-4946), per the JBSA child care page.
