Overview
Naval Base Kitsap is a consolidated naval base in the Puget Sound region of Washington State, incorporating the former Naval Station Bremerton, Naval Submarine Base Bangor, and Naval Magazine Indian Island under a single installation command. Located on the Kitsap Peninsula across Puget Sound from Seattle, Naval Base Kitsap is home to a significant portion of the Pacific Fleet’s submarine and surface forces, including Ohio-class ballistic missile submarines (SSBNs) and Virginia-class attack submarines (SSNs). Bangor is the largest nuclear weapons storage site in the U.S. arsenal. The base provides strategic deterrence as a homeport for the Navy’s Trident nuclear submarine force and conventional submarine and surface operations.
