U.S. Army Garrison Wiesbaden, in Wiesbaden in the German state of Hesse, centers on Clay Kaserne in Wiesbaden-Erbenheim and the Hainerberg housing area. The MilitaryINSTALLATIONS page for USAG Wiesbaden says the garrison “integrates, synchronizes, delivers services, and provides infrastructure to enable Readiness, theater-wide Mission Command, and support to Contingency Operations.”

In-processing on Clay Kaserne

In-processing is at Building 1023 West, Room 101, Wells Avenue, Clay Kaserne, per the USAG Wiesbaden check-in page; the Military Personnel Division is at DSN 548-1607. Questions about marrying in Germany go to the garrison’s legal services.

Housing: a short wait for government quarters

The MilitaryINSTALLATIONS overview of Wiesbaden put the wait for government housing at approximately 0 to 8 weeks in October 2026, depending on rank and bedroom requirement, and says most on-post housing is in the immediate vicinity of Clay Kaserne. Family housing applications, assignments and Temporary Lodging Allowance are handled by the DPW Housing Customer Service Branch in the Welcome Center on Clay Kaserne.

The off-post Housing Office is on the second floor of Building 1023 West, per the USAG Wiesbaden housing page: walk-ins only on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, and appointments only on Tuesday and Thursday, 8 to 11:30 a.m. and 1 to 3:30 p.m. Call DSN 548-4460 or 0611-143-548-4460.

If you rent, budget for “Nebenkosten”, the monthly charges for garbage, water, energy and heating, which the overview says are often included in a “Warmmiete” rent. In October 2026 it estimated about €315 a month in utilities for an 85-square-meter apartment, and one-bedroom rents in Wiesbaden of €850 to €1,150 in the city center and €750 to €880 outside it.

The Wiesbaden Army Lodge is in the Hainerberg Housing Area, Mississippi Strasse 45, Building 7890, and the overview says a typical PCS family stays 30 days or fewer. Tell the lodge if you have a pet when you reserve, per the USAG Wiesbaden temporary housing page; families may keep up to two pets, dogs and cats only, in housing.

Medical care: no emergency room at the clinic

“There is NO Emergency Room at the Wiesbaden Army Health Clinic”, the USAG Wiesbaden health care page says; for emergencies, go to the nearest hospital or dial DSN 117 or 112. It names two host nation hospitals nearby: Horst Schmidt Kliniken, Ludwig-Erhard-Strasse 100, and St. Josefs-Hospital, Beethovenstrasse 20, which the page notes does not handle inpatient behavioral health, eye injuries or pediatric emergencies. Strip maps to both are posted outside the clinic, and patient liaisons help U.S. beneficiaries admitted to German hospitals.

Schools and child care

Wiesbaden has four DoDEA schools, Aukamm Elementary School, Wiesbaden Elementary, Wiesbaden Middle School and Wiesbaden High School, according to the USAG Wiesbaden education page; other options are home schooling, private international schools and German public schools. The page counts about 2,250 school-age students, with over 2,000 in the DoDEA schools. Register for Child and Youth Services, including Family Child Care, at Parent Central Services, per the USAG Wiesbaden child care page.

Driving and pets

DoD ID card holders in Germany may register their vehicles with the U.S. military, outside German taxes and registration, and get a USAREUR driver’s license, per the USAG Wiesbaden motor vehicles page. Anyone 18 or over completes the training and passes the online USAREUR test on Joint Knowledge Online (courses USA-007 and USA-007B), then applies in person at the Driver’s Testing Station at least 24 hours later; the passing score is 85%.

Germany’s federal import ban on certain dog breeds, and how German Customs applies it, is set out in the Ramstein Air Base guide. Check the ban before you ship a dog: it applies regardless of the two-pet housing limit. The temporary housing page lists a European microchip, a USDA or veterinarian certification and a current rabies vaccine for pets coming to Wiesbaden.

The Wiesbaden Legal Center offers walk-in powers of attorney, affidavits and simple notarizations, with everything else by appointment, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday, 9 a.m. to noon and 1 to 4 p.m., per the USAG Wiesbaden legal assistance page: DSN 537-0664 or 0611-143-537-0664. Request appointments by email; the office aims to reply within two business days.

First week in Wiesbaden

Start in-processing at Building 1023 West, apply for government housing at the Welcome Center, and book the Army Lodge with your pet noted. Learn the route to Horst Schmidt Kliniken before you need it, because the clinic on post has no emergency room.
