Overview

Wright-Patterson Air Force Base is located northeast of Dayton, Ohio, spanning Greene and Montgomery counties. One of the largest and most diverse Air Force installations in the United States, Wright-Patterson is the birthplace of aviation – the site where Orville and Wilbur Wright conducted much of their earliest powered flight research. Home to Air Force Materiel Command (AFMC) headquarters and the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL), Wright-Patterson is the Air Force’s center for science, technology, and acquisition. The National Museum of the United States Air Force – the world’s largest military aviation museum – is located on the base.
