Overview
Eglin Air Force Base is located in the Florida Panhandle in Okaloosa County near the communities of Valparaiso, Niceville, and Fort Walton Beach. Established in 1935 as Valparaiso Bombing and Gunnery Base, it is the largest Air Force base in the world by land area, encompassing approximately 724 square miles of land range and 101,000 square miles of water range in the Gulf of Mexico. Eglin serves as the primary development and test center for Air Force armaments, and is home to a variety of operational flying units and special operations forces.
