Osan Air Base, in Pyeongtaek, sits 48 miles south of the Korean Demilitarized Zone and is home to the “Mustangs” of the 51st Fighter Wing and 24 tenant units, including Seventh Air Force, according to the MilitaryINSTALLATIONS page for Osan. The page describes the 51st as “the most forward deployed permanently-based wing in the Air Force” and asks every inbound member to be mission-focused before leaving the losing base.
Families: concurrent travel must be approved first
In October 2026 the Osan temporary housing page said: “Osan Air Base is currently in a nonconcurrent travel status.” Command-sponsored personnel must request concurrent travel through the 51st Force Support Squadron before moving their family, and concurrent travel is approved only after the member has committed Military Family Housing or committed or leased off-base quarters. The Airman and Family Readiness Center can explain the process: DSN 315-784-5440 or 011-82-505-784-5440.
Osan has no passport office, the installation page notes; passport services are at Camp Humphreys, Maude Hall, Building 6400, Room E 101. Korean Immigration Services has an Osan office in the Air Mobility Command Passenger Terminal, Building 648, weekdays 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Getting from Incheon to Osan
If you have orders but have not arrived, you can join the monthly Pre-arrival Orientation brief on Zoom at 8 a.m. Korean Standard Time, usually the first Tuesday of the month, per the Osan check-in page. Arriving at Incheon International Airport, use the contracted bus through the Joint Personnel Processing Center desk; the ride takes one and a half to two hours.
- 51st FSS newcomer buses: Terminal 1 Gate 2 at 9:30 a.m., 6 p.m. and 9 p.m.; Terminal 2 Gate 3 at 9 a.m., 5:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m.
- Fare: $40 per person one way for PCS and TDY travelers, cash only, paid on the bus and reimbursable.
- Pets are not allowed on the buses; arrange a van in advance.
- Uniform: USFK personnel may not wear OCPs or equivalent uniforms at Incheon; wear Class A/B, a service equivalent or appropriate civilian clothes.
Housing and lodging
Accompanied and command-sponsored members must report to the housing office within 48 hours of arrival to check on availability, per the Osan housing page. Military Family Housing is three towers, by grade:
- Seoraksan Tower, 112 units: E-6 and below.
- Jirisan Tower, 104 units: E-7 to E-9 and O-1 to O-3.
- Hallasan Tower, 112 units: O-4 to O-6.
- Plus 21 senior officer quarters (O-6) and 2 general officer quarters.
An off-base housing briefing runs Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 8 a.m. The Housing Office is in Building 600, Room 101: DSN 315-784-1840 or 0505-784-1840 from a Korean phone. The page lists two different sets of office hours, so call before you go.
The Turumi Lodge, Building 772, has 397 rooms and is open 24/7, per the temporary housing page, which listed the room rate at $60 a night in October 2026; general suites are the only units with a full kitchenette. Reservations: DSN 315-784-1844. The Osan Boarding Kennels take PCS dogs and cats with current vaccination records (kennel cough for dogs); puppies younger than 4 months are not accepted.
Medical care: no emergency department on base
The 51st Medical Group runs the hospital at Osan, a chemically hardened facility with a 30-bed inpatient unit, according to the Osan health care page. Its Urgent Care Center does not accept ambulance emergencies. The page directs:
- On-base emergency: dial 911 from a DSN phone, or 0505-784-9111 from a cell phone, per the Osan emergency assistance page.
- Off-base emergency: dial 119.
- Emergency department: go to the nearest one; the page notes one on Camp Humphreys, about a 30-minute drive from base.
Patients who need more specialized care are referred to Brian D. Allgood Army Community Hospital at Camp Humphreys or to other facilities in Korea, Japan, Hawaii or the continental United States; for more information, call DSN 784-2273.
Complete dental services for family members, including orthodontics and oral surgery, are by referral to an outside provider. For sexual assault response or the Law Enforcement Desk, call 011-82-31-661-5515 or DSN 315-784-5515, per the Osan emergency assistance page.
Schools and child care
Osan American Elementary School, Osan American Middle School and Osan American High School are on base, according to the Osan education page. The page gives the elementary school’s top grade as both 5th and 6th, so confirm grade placement with the School Liaison in the Professional Development Center, Building 788. A child must be 6 on or before September 1 for first grade.
The Osan Child Development Center cares for children 6 weeks to 5 years old, with full-time and space-available hourly care: DSN 315-784-4966 or 011-82-31-661-4966 from the United States. Family Child Care providers, registered through MilitaryChildCare.com, care for children from 2 weeks to 12 years, no more than 6 at a time, per the Osan child care page.
Pets
Korea’s requirements for dogs and cats (rabies vaccination, an antibody test of at least 0.5 IU/ml, an ISO microchip and an APHIS-endorsed health certificate within 30 days of export) are listed in the USAG Humphreys guide. The Osan pet shipping page adds that emergency care is not available at military veterinary facilities, that every pet must be registered at the installation Veterinary Treatment Facility within 10 days of arrival, and that you should contact the quarantine facility in advance to make sure there is space at the Osan VTF. The 106th Medical Detachment Veterinary Service Support: 011-82-503-384-6934.
Vehicles
Every vehicle must first be registered with the Pyeongtaek DMV and then at the Osan Pass and ID office, Building 765 (DSN 315-784-4489), and must pass a USFK-approved inspection, per the Osan motor vehicles page. Bring the USFK customs import document (3702-55B), your orders, letter of employment or Form USFK 719, and the vehicle safety inspection certificate; members living off base also show DD Form 2367. Registration is good for one year. The USFK license and Korea’s liberty rules are covered in the USAG Humphreys guide.
Your order of operations
If your family is coming, request concurrent travel and secure committed housing before anyone books a flight. Then report to the housing office within 48 hours, and save 911 for a DSN phone on base, 0505-784-9111 for a cell phone on base, 119 for off base and the Humphreys emergency department route in your phone, because the Osan Urgent Care Center does not take ambulance emergencies.
