Patrick Space Force Base

“Space Launch Delta 45, collocated at Patrick SFB and Cape Canaveral SFS, provides activities and resources for safety of flight, range instrumentation, infrastructure, and scheduling required to support and assure space and ballistic launches, and other operations”, according to the Patrick MilitaryINSTALLATIONS page. The delta manages space launch operations from the Eastern Range. The main number listed for Space Launch Delta 45 is 321-494-1110.

In-processing

“Upon arrival, all military members must in-process through their squadron commander support staff section before doing any other in-processing”, the check-in page says; bring copies of your orders and other hand-carried documents. If you have not been assigned a sponsor before leaving your losing base, call the Military and Family Readiness Center’s Relocation Assistance Program manager at 321-494-5676 to be connected with the right first sergeant. The M&FRC holds Newcomers Orientation on the third Tuesday of each month and a tour of Cape Canaveral Space Force Station on the third Wednesday.

The Patrick overview asks you to hand-carry copies of your orders, birth certificates, marriage license, court documents such as custody agreements and your last LES. If you get married before your PCS move, inform your commander and follow the procedures you are given, or the military will not pay your spouse’s travel and housing expenses.

The Space Coast Inn at 820 Falcon Ave., Building 720, is open from 0600 to midnight, 7 days a week (321-494-6590), per the check-in page. A few lodging rooms welcome pets for an additional daily fee of $10, and “There are no quarantines in Brevard County”, the installation page says.

Housing

The Housing Office at 514 Falcon Ave., Building 415 (321-494-2594), serves Patrick SFB and Cape Canaveral SFS, per the housing page. The education page names the privatized housing areas: River’s Edge and Oceanside on base, and Pelican Coast off base. Ask the Housing Office which company manages them and how to apply.

Medical care: no emergency room

“There is no emergency room on Patrick Space Force Base”, the health care page says; the 45th Medical Group Clinic offers family practice, flight medicine, pediatrics and physical therapy (321-494-8241). “For life-threatening emergencies, always dial 911 immediately”, per the emergency assistance page.

Child care

A 31,055-square-foot Child Development Center opened in January 2010 with a capacity of 256 children (321-494-7028), the overview says, and all child care requests start at MilitaryChildCare.com.

Schools: Brevard County

The education page assigns schools by housing area. On-base River’s Edge and Oceanside residents attend Roosevelt Elementary School and Cocoa Beach Jr/Sr High School, both with busing required; off-base Pelican Coast residents attend Holland Elementary, DeLaura Middle and Satellite Beach High School. Brevard County School District provides bus transportation when schools are farther than walking distance.
