Overview
Schriever Space Force Base is located approximately 10 miles east of Colorado Springs, Colorado, and serves as the command and control hub for the majority of U.S. military satellite operations. Home to the 50th Space Wing and numerous Space Force and intelligence community units, Schriever operates and controls GPS satellites, missile warning satellites, communications satellites, and other national security space assets. The installation was renamed from Schriever Air Force Base to Schriever Space Force Base in June 2021 following the establishment of the U.S. Space Force. The base is named for General Bernard A. Schriever, considered the “father” of the Air Force ballistic missile and military space programs.
