Schriever Space Force Base

Schriever Space Force Base, in El Paso County about 10 miles east of Colorado Springs at 6,237 feet, is home to more than 8,000 military and civilian employees, and “Schriever SFB is now the home of Space Base Delta 41”, according to the Schriever MilitaryINSTALLATIONS overview. The base was renamed Schriever Space Force Base in July 2021. There is no lodging on Schriever, and services Schriever does not offer are provided by Peterson Space Force Base, “a full service base ten miles down the road”, the installation page says.

Gates and the drive

The overview lists the North Gate on Enoch Road as the 24-hour gate, with the Visitor Center just before it, and the West Gate on Irwin Road as weekdays only; in October 2026 the installation page said that because of construction, the Irwin Road Gate was open 24/7 until further notice. Check the current gate status before your first drive. Highway 94 is the main road to the base, and during morning commuting hours the sunrise sits directly on the horizon over the road, making visibility very difficult.

In fall, winter and spring, the installation page warns, extreme winter weather sometimes delays reporting or limits it to mission-essential personnel; the Space Base Delta 1 and Space Base Delta 41 Snow Call Line is 719-556-7669. Spring and summer thunderstorms can bring damaging hail and wind.

Checking in and lodging

Report to your unit commander’s section on arrival, or the next duty day if you arrive after duty hours; your unit sets up your in-processing appointments, per the check-in page. If you are eligible for house hunting, make sure you are officially on permissive TDY, or you will be charged regular leave.

“Lodging accommodations are not available at Schriever Space Force Base”, the check-in page says. Use the Pikes Peak Lodge on Peterson Space Force Base, about 15 to 20 minutes away, which takes reservations 24/7 (719-556-7851). Passports and visas are also handled at Peterson.

Housing: Tierra Vista Communities

Tierra Vista Communities opened base housing on Schriever on Aug. 26, 2009, and there are 242 housing units, per the housing page. Tierra Vista and the Schriever Military Housing Office share the Tierra Vista Community Center, 300 Hartinger Circle: Tierra Vista 719-683-3660, Military Housing Office 719-567-5069.

Medical care: no emergency treatment at the clinic

“The Schriever clinic does not offer emergency medical treatment. In the event of a medical emergency, call 911 for immediate assistance”, the health care page says. The clinic, run by the 21st Medical Squadron of the 21st Medical Group at Peterson, provides primary care, dental, flight medicine, mental health, pharmacy and other services; appointments are at 719-524-2273. You need a referral for care your primary care manager does not provide, such as urgent, preventive, mental health and specialty care.
