“The primary mission of Scott Air Force Base is global mobility”, according to the Scott MilitaryINSTALLATIONS page, which says the installation provides United States aeromedical evacuation capabilities, flies C-21 operational support airlift and operates KC-135 air refueling missions. The host unit is the 375th Air Mobility Wing, “AMC’s Showcase Wing”, which has managed the domestic aeromedical evacuation system since 1975. The Scott overview lists mission partners including Air Mobility Command, U.S. Transportation Command, the Cyberspace Capabilities Center, the 635th Supply Chain Operations Wing, the Reserve 932nd Airlift Wing, the Air National Guard’s 126th Air Refueling Wing and the Defense Information Systems Agency. Scott is in St. Clair County, Illinois, part of the Metro East region of Greater St. Louis.
Before and during your move
Temporary Lodging Facilities at the Scott Inn offer a limited number of pet-friendly units for an additional $10 per night, and you must present a current rabies certificate at check-in; reservations are first-come, first-served (618-256-1844), the overview says. Air and Space Force families may qualify for the child care for PCS program: in October 2026 the overview said service members within 60 days of arriving may receive up to $200 per child, up to age 12, with a maximum of $1,000 per family. Cell phone use while driving is prohibited on Scott AFB, the installation page says. In winter, check the Scott AFB Snow and Information Line at 618-256-SAFB (7232) for base conditions, reporting delays and facility closures.
Housing: Scott Family Housing
“Privatized housing, Scott Family Housing, is managed by Hunt Companies”, the housing page says, and residents have two community centers, including one indoor swimming pool, plus parks, playgrounds and walking trails. As listed in October 2026, the same page gives average off-base rents, from $851 for a one-bedroom unfurnished apartment to $1542 for a three-bedroom house.
Medical care
The 375th Medical Group at 310 West Losey Street, Building 1530, is open weekdays from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and closed on Wing Down Days and Training Days (618-256-9355), per the health care page. “The nearest civilian hospitals are St. Elizabeth’s Hospital” in O’Fallon (618-234-2120) and Memorial Hospital Shiloh (618-607-1000), both about 10 miles from the base.
Schools: Mascoutah Community Unit School District 19
“If you live on base and you wish for your children to attend public schools, your children will attend schools in Mascoutah Community Unit School District 19”, per the education page. Scott Elementary School, adjacent to the base, serves preK-5, and “You must be living on base for your child to attend Scott Elementary School.” Families living off base attend one of the surrounding districts.
