Overview
Scott Air Force Base is located approximately 12 miles east of St. Louis, Missouri, in the greater Metro-East Illinois area near Belleville. One of the most geographically central Air Force installations in the United States, Scott AFB is home to U.S. Transportation Command (USTRANSCOM) – the combatant command responsible for all global deployment and sustainment of U.S. military forces – and Air Mobility Command (AMC), the major command that operates the Air Force’s airlift and aerial refueling missions. Scott AFB is one of the most “Pentagon-like” remote duty stations given the concentration of high-level headquarters and the proximity to a major metropolitan area.
